The hotel of the same name has never closed, keeping itself open since 1949 under various parent companies. It initially opened as the SAN JERONIMO HILTON, but then became Condado Plaza, name it has kept up to now. Its latest parent company is the Hilton Hotels chain, just like in the beginning. Originally opened in 1949, its casino stayed opened until 1970. Then opened again in 1983.<br>Due to growing need to find extra sources of income, around 2014 the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico approved non-casino slot machine operation open throughout the island. It has since become a royal pain in the back, as locals have opened small ventures all throughout the island buying 2nd hand old generation machines prone to be easily "fixed" to the owners benefit, milking out innocent customers of their hard earned money, most outstandingly elder people living on fixed income such as retirement and social security checks.
